Human composting

Human composting is the accelerated decomposition of remains inside a purpose built vessel. Without the need for a coffin, this process is perfect for those wishing to be environmentally conscious and leave behind a useful by-product. The body is placed with organic materials such as wood, straw and plant based matter and kept at a constant temperature. The mixture is aerated and breaks down naturally with the help of microorganisms that are present in the body. The process takes about 10 weeks and the resulting compost can be used to replenish soil, even in your back garden! Nb: Unfortunately this option is not yet available to us in Australia as reviews are currently underway to legalise this popular environmentally friendly method of human disposal.
