Mushroom Casket/suit

a group of mushrooms growing in the woods

The newly created “mushroom” coffin, often referred to as ‘the living coffin’ facilitates rapid body decomposition using naturally present organisms in the earth. The process uses mycelium, an underground form of fungi that is efficient in decomposing organic matter and also able to process toxins and other pollutants such as heavy metals. The coffin is made from natural fungal fibres infused with wood chips and dried into shape. Once buried the surrounding soil and water begins the process of returning the human remains to nature in a quicker process than traditional burial. Nb: Currently the mushroom coffin/suit is only available in the US.
